Dahua DMSS: Adding a Device via IP or Domain
Adding a Dahua Device to DMSS via IP Address or Domain
The IP/Domain method is used when the installer needs to add a device without using P2P cloud relay — typically for devices on a static IP address, devices accessible via a DDNS hostname, or closed systems where cloud connectivity is not permitted. Unlike the P2P method, devices added via IP address are not bound to a Dahua account and are local to the DMSS installation on that specific phone or tablet.
Prerequisites
- The Dahua device is initialised with an admin password set.
- DMSS is installed on the mobile device.
- For local IP access: the mobile device and the Dahua device must be on the same network (same subnet or with appropriate routing in place).
- For remote access via external IP or DDNS: the device's management port (default 37777) must be port-forwarded at the site router.
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Open DMSS and start adding a device
From the DMSS Home tab, tap the + icon in the top right corner and select IP/Domain from the method list.
2. Select the device type
Choose NVR, DVR, IP Camera, or the appropriate type for the device being added. In most situations this will be NVR. Selecting the correct type ensures DMSS presents the right channel layout and feature set.
3. Enter the connection details
Fill in the following fields:
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| IP Address / Domain | Local IP (e.g. 192.168.1.100) or DDNS hostname |
| Port | 37777 (Dahua default; change only if modified during device setup) |
| Name | Descriptive label for this device in DMSS |
| Username | admin (or the configured username) |
| Password | The device admin password |
Tap Save.
4. Confirm live view loads
After saving, DMSS redirects to the Live View screen for the newly added device. Confirm channels are visible. If the connection fails, check that the port is reachable and that the credentials are correct.
When to Use IP vs P2P
| Scenario | Recommended Method |
|---|---|
| Residential install with NAT router, no static IP | P2P |
| Commercial site with static IP, IT controls firewall | IP/Domain |
| DDNS configured for remote access | IP/Domain |
| Air-gapped system, no internet | IP/Domain (local only) |
