Dahua DMSS: Adding a Device via P2P (Serial Scan)
Adding a Dahua Device to DMSS via P2P (QR Code Method)
P2P (peer-to-peer) is the recommended method for adding Dahua cameras and recorders to the DMSS mobile app when the device is behind a NAT router or the installer does not want to configure port forwarding. The device registers itself with Dahua's cloud service using a serial number; DMSS connects to that cloud service to retrieve the stream.
Prerequisites
Before starting, confirm the following:
- The Dahua device is initialised and has an admin password set.
- DMSS is installed on the mobile device.
- The device is connected to the internet (required for P2P to register).
Step-by-Step Setup
1. Enable P2P on the Dahua device
On the device's local web interface or connected monitor, navigate to Settings > Network > P2P. Confirm P2P is enabled and that the status shows Online. If the status shows Offline, the device cannot reach Dahua's cloud relay — check the WAN connection and DNS settings.
2. Open DMSS and begin adding a device
In the DMSS app, tap the Home tab (bottom left), then tap the + icon in the top right corner. If this is a fresh install with no devices, tap Add Device.
3. Select Scan QR Code
Choose Scan QR Code from the method options. Allow DMSS camera access if prompted — this is required for the QR scan to function.
4. Scan the serial number QR code
The serial number QR code is located on the device label or displayed on the P2P settings screen retrieved in step 1. Place the QR code in the scan frame. If the device label is inaccessible, select Manually Enter SN and type the serial number by hand.
5. Do not enter a security code
After the scan, the serial number auto-populates. Leave the security code field empty unless a custom security code was set during device initialisation. Tap Next.
6. Enter the device admin password
This is the admin password configured on the Dahua device itself — not the DMSS account password. Android users may be prompted to select a device type before the password field appears. Tap Next.
7. Name the device and set time zone
Assign a recognisable name (e.g. "Front Door Cam" or "Reception NVR") and confirm the time zone and DST settings. Tap Get Started.
8. Confirm the device appears in the Home tab
The newly added device displays on the DMSS home screen. Tap it to confirm live view loads correctly.
