Setting a Static IP on a Dahua IP Camera (5.0 UI)
Dahua IP cameras ship configured to obtain an IP address via DHCP. On most commercial installations, the installer assigns a static IP to each camera to ensure the NVR always connects to a known address and the camera does not disappear from the recorder if the DHCP lease expires or the router is replaced.
This guide applies to cameras running the Dahua 5.0 user interface (the current generation for most IPC and IVSS models). Cameras with an older UI have a different menu layout.
Prerequisites
- The camera is connected to the network and is accessible at its current DHCP address.
- A static IP address has been planned for this camera and confirmed not to conflict with other devices on the subnet.
- The installer knows the camera's current IP address (available from the router's DHCP lease table or from ConfigTool).
Step-by-Step
1. Access the camera web interface
Open a browser and enter the camera's current IP address. Log in using the admin account credentials.
2. Open Network Settings
Select the Gear icon at the top right of the interface (Settings / Configuration). On the left-hand navigation panel, select TCP/IP.
3. Change from DHCP to Static
In the TCP/IP settings page, change the Mode selector from DHCP to Static. The IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS fields become editable.
4. Enter the static IP details
Fill in the planned IP address, subnet mask (typically 255.255.255.0 for /24 networks), default gateway (the router's LAN IP), and preferred DNS server. For most on-site NVR-only systems, the DNS server is the gateway address. For systems that need to reach Dahua's cloud for P2P or NTP, enter a public DNS server.
5. Save and reconnect
Click Save. The camera will briefly drop off the network as it applies the new address. After 10–15 seconds, reconnect by navigating to the new static IP in the browser to confirm the change has taken effect.
6. Update the NVR channel configuration
If the camera is already added to an NVR, navigate to the NVR's channel management screen and update the camera's IP address to match the newly assigned static address.
Tip: Assign IPs in Batches Before Installation
The most efficient workflow is to assign static IPs to all cameras on the bench before installing them on-site. Use Dahua ConfigTool to scan for cameras on the local laptop network, assign IPs in sequence, and then install. This avoids accessing camera web interfaces through a long cable run or scaffold platform.
