Dante Certification Programme: Level 1, 2 and 3
What Is the Dante Certification Programme?
The Dante Certification Programme is Audinate's free online training and examination pathway for AV professionals. Completing the programme demonstrates competency in designing, deploying, and managing Dante networks — and is widely recognised by employers and clients as the standard credential for networked AV work.
Certification is structured in levels, each building on the previous. The installer does not need to complete all levels to work on Dante systems, but higher levels unlock more complex system designs and provide evidence of expertise during tender submissions.
Programme Levels
Level 1 — Fundamentals
Covers the basics of digital audio, networking foundations, and Dante Controller operation. After completing Level 1, the installer can design and manage single-switch Dante networks with confidence. This level is appropriate for AV technicians entering networked audio for the first time and for IT staff supporting AV installations.
Level 2 — Managed Networks
Focuses on managed network configuration for Dante: VLAN design, QoS settings, IGMP configuration, and redundancy options. Level 2 prepares the installer for enterprise AV environments where the network infrastructure is managed by an IT department and specific switch configuration is required to guarantee Dante performance. Dante Controller features for latency tuning and multicast management are covered in depth.
Level 3 — Enterprise Scale
The advanced level. Covers cross-subnet deployment, Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synchronisation, Dante API automation, and security models for large distributed systems. Level 3 is aimed at system integrators managing Dante estates across multiple buildings or campuses.
Dante Domain Manager Administrator Certification
A separate certification module specific to DDM deployment. Covers logical network segmentation, user management, LDAP integration, advanced clocking, and detailed audit logging. Required reading before deploying DDM on a large site.
Credit Hours and CPD
Completing Dante certification levels earns continuing education credits towards CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, ANP, and CEDIA certifications. The installer should check the current allocation with their relevant body, as credit hours are reviewed periodically.
Dante Mastery Class
An in-person, paid, four-day intensive held at Audinate's US headquarters. Participants build a multi-switch lab network, configure Layer 3 routing, and deploy Dante Domain Manager across a 16-station classroom environment. This is the highest practical qualification available and is aimed at integrators who regularly deliver large enterprise Dante systems.
Why This Matters for Habitech Partners
Installers holding Dante Level 2 or Level 3 certification are better positioned to troubleshoot IGMP, QoS, and VLAN issues during commissioning — reducing call-backs. Certification is also increasingly listed as a requirement in tender documents for corporate and education AV contracts.
