Dante Director: Web-Based AV Network Management
What Is Dante Director?
Dante Director is a subscription-based web application that gives the installer a central dashboard to monitor, manage, and secure Dante networks across a site — or across multiple sites — without being physically present at the rack.
Unlike Dante Controller (a local software tool), Dante Director operates from any browser. The installer logs in, sees the full estate of Dante devices, and can act on faults or changes immediately. This is the tool to use when handing over a large or multi-room system where remote support calls are likely.
Core Capabilities
Remote device access: Use Dante Controller remotely through Dante Director to manage subscriptions, routing, and configuration from outside the site network. Port-forwarding and VPN are not required.
Device grouping: Create logical groups of devices — by room, floor, or function — simplifying the routing matrix and clock hierarchy management in larger installations.
User authentication and encryption: Protect Dante networks from accidental or unauthorised changes. Assign access levels to different staff or contractors so the site team can reboot a device without inadvertently touching signal routing.
Real-time monitoring and alerting: Dante Director raises alerts the moment a device drops off-network, reports a fault, or shows degraded performance. The installer knows about a problem before the end user does.
Device logs and charts: Examine up to 30 days of detailed per-device logs and performance charts. Useful for post-incident analysis and fault escalation to manufacturers.
Dante API integration: Build custom monitoring or control integrations using the Dante Managed API. For sites using room control systems, API hooks allow third-party platforms to surface Dante health data in a single operations dashboard.
Standard vs Professional
| Feature | Standard | Professional |
|---|---|---|
| Network size | Small–medium | Enterprise / multi-site |
| Setup complexity | Quick start, no server | Full deployment |
| Subnet routing | Basic | Full cross-subnet |
| Starting price | Lower | Per-site licensing |
Standard is suitable for a single venue with a modest device count. Professional is the right choice for multi-building campuses, education estates, and installations where the system integrator provides ongoing managed support.
When to Use Dante Director vs Dante Domain Manager
Dante Director suits the installer who needs remote visibility and basic access control without deploying server infrastructure on-site. Dante Domain Manager (DDM) is the heavier solution — it runs as an on-premises or cloud-hosted server and is designed for very large networks where logical segmentation and LDAP-based access are requirements. For most installed commercial AV systems, Dante Director covers the brief.
