Dante Platform Overview for AV Installers
What Is the Dante Platform?
Dante is an AV-over-IP networking platform from Audinate that routes audio, video, and control signals over standard Ethernet infrastructure. It replaces point-to-point analogue and digital cabling with software-managed signal routing across a shared IP network. Over 600 manufacturers build Dante into their products — from console amplifiers to wireless microphone systems.
Core Platform Capabilities
Lossless audio transport: Dante moves uncompressed, perfectly synchronised audio over standard Ethernet with sub-millisecond latency. All clocking is managed automatically — no word-clock cabling required.
Lossless video transport (Dante AV): Dante AV extends the platform to video, delivering low-latency lossless video with the same software routing model as audio. Dante AV-H products are AV-over-IP endpoints managed from within Dante Controller.
Software-managed routing: Signal routing is configured and changed via Dante Controller software — no rewiring. A routing change takes seconds and persists to the devices.
Security: Dante's security architecture includes device authentication, encrypted management traffic, and optional AES-256 media encryption. Domain-level access control is available via Dante Domain Manager.
Manufacturer interoperability: Any Dante-enabled product from any manufacturer can be routed to any other. 4,000+ certified products are available from 600+ brands.
Why Dante for Installed AV?
For the installer, Dante reduces cabling cost (shared Ethernet backbone), simplifies commissioning (software routing vs physical patching), and provides an upgrade path — adding sources or zones means connecting another Dante device to the network, not rewiring racks.
The platform is designed for permanent installation: routing persists through power cycles and device replacements without re-running the software.
