Dirac Mic Placement for Accurate Room Measurement
During the Dirac measurement phase the installer is prompted through several listening positions. The sequence begins at the middle (main) position, then moves to Top Front Right, Top Front Left, Bottom Front Right and on through the remaining points. Getting the mic placement right at each is what produces a reliable calibration.
Placement guidelines
Single-row cinema
- Main Position: the centre chair, at roughly seated head height.
- Front positions: align with the front edge of the sofa.
- Back positions: align with, or sit just behind, the back of the sofa.
- Top-row positions: overhead.
- Bottom-row positions: at armrest height.
Multi-row cinema
- Take the back-row measurements in line with the back-row seating, so the calibration reflects where people actually sit.
Multiple listening zones
Keep the main position centred between the listening zones. The outer measurement points can be moved closer to the armrests for additional calibration passes, widening the sweet spot across the seating.
Treat these as a starting point
These are guidelines to give the installer a sound idea of where the mic should go. Adapt them to the client's seating preferences and the specific conditions of the room rather than following them rigidly.
