Naim Input and Output Configuration Guide
Renaming Inputs
Naim products allow custom input labels — useful when multiple sources are connected and the installer needs quick identification on the app and front display.
Steps:
- Open the Focal & Naim app.
- Go to Settings > System Settings > Input Settings.
- Select the input and enter a custom label (e.g. "TV", "Turntable", "Disc Player").
Custom names appear on both the app home screen and the product display.
Disabling Unused Inputs
Simplify the user's source list by hiding inputs that are not connected.
- In the app, go to Settings > System Settings > Input Settings.
- Toggle off any input not in use.
Note: disabling an input removes it from the interface only — it remains active at the electronic level inside the unit.
Input Trim
Input Trim adjusts the playback level per input independently, equalising loudness when switching between sources with different output levels (e.g. a CD player versus a TV).
Location: Settings > System Settings > Input Settings > Input Trim.
Connecting External Sources
Supported source types:
- Turntables (via phono stage — see below)
- CD players
- TVs (optical or analogue input)
- Computers (analogue or digital)
- Streamers and DACs
Always use quality interconnects; follow Naim's connection sequence to avoid damage.
Subwoofer Connection
Some Naim units provide a subwoofer output via RCA or DIN preamp out.
- Use the preamp output or dedicated sub socket where fitted.
- Set the subwoofer's crossover and volume to integrate with the main speakers.
- Some subwoofers support high-level connection — verify with the subwoofer manufacturer before specifying.
Phono Stage Connection
The NSC 222, Supernait 3, and NAIT XS 3 include a built-in moving magnet phono stage. All other models require an external phono stage (Naim Stageline or Superline, with appropriate power supply).
Connect the turntable arm leads and earth wire to the phono stage, then run from the phono stage output to any free analogue input on the Naim unit.
Output Socket Selection (Streaming Products)
For the ND555, NSS 333, NDX 2, ND5 XS 2, NSC 222:
- Open the Focal & Naim app.
- Go to Settings > System Settings > Output Settings.
- Select RCA, DIN, both, or digital — DIN is preferred for Naim-to-Naim connections.
For the NAC 332: toggle the two-position switch on the rear panel near the XLR/RCA sockets to switch from XLR-only to XLR+RCA.
