Naim Storage: Per-Product Compatibility Reference
Storage Compatibility by Product Family
Not every Naim product supports internal drive installation. The table below covers USB and NAS access as well:
| Product Family | Models | Internal | USB | NAS (UPnP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Uniti Series | Atom, Star, Nova | No | Yes | Yes |
| Mu-so Series | Mu-so 2, Mu-so Qb 2 | No | Yes | Yes |
| Classic Streamers | ND5 XS 2, NDX 2, ND 555 | No | Yes | Yes |
| Legacy Streamers | NDX, ND5 XS, SuperUniti | No | Yes | Yes |
| Uniti Core | Uniti Core | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Only the Uniti Core supports an internal drive. All other Naim products access music storage externally via USB or network (UPnP).
USB Storage
All Naim products with a USB socket can read music from a USB drive.
- Format the drive as FAT32, exFAT, or NTFS (NTFS on newer firmware/models only)
- Keep the total library below 1 TB for reliable indexing
- Avoid USB hubs or daisy-chained devices
- Use FLAC or WAV for best quality and compatibility
NAS Storage via UPnP
For large libraries or multiroom installs, a NAS is the recommended approach.
Setup steps:
- Connect the NAS to the same network as the Naim product.
- Enable UPnP server software on the NAS (Twonky or MinimServer are confirmed compatible).
- Open the Focal & Naim app, go to Local Music > UPnP.
- Select the NAS and browse the music library.
NAS drives handle large collections and serve multiple Naim zones simultaneously — plan network capacity accordingly.
Storage Best Practices
- Organise files in a logical folder hierarchy
- FLAC or WAV preferred over lossy formats
- Do not use USB hubs — connect directly to the Naim USB port
- 1 TB maximum for USB storage; NAS has no practical upper limit
