Naim USB Playback: Format and Compatibility Fix
File System Compatibility
If a connected USB drive is not recognised or will not play, check the drive format first:
| File System | Supported On |
|---|---|
| FAT32 | All Naim products |
| exFAT | Products on firmware 3.4 or later |
| NTFS / HFS+ | NDX 2, ND555, and select models |
Reformat to FAT32 or exFAT if unsure — always back up data before reformatting.
Supported Audio Formats
The Focal & Naim app will only index files in supported formats:
- WAV, FLAC, AIFF, ALAC
- MP3, AAC, OGG
Files with unrecognised extensions or incorrect metadata will not appear.
Folder Structure
Overly complex folder hierarchies or special characters (&, etc.) in file or folder names can prevent indexing.
- Keep folder structures simple and flat.
- Avoid special characters in file or folder names.
- Keep the total track count below 100,000 for reliable indexing.
First Steps When USB Is Not Recognised
- Disconnect and reconnect the drive.
- Restart the Naim product.
- Wait for indexing to complete before browsing.
To access the drive: open the Focal & Naim app, select the device, navigate to USB input, and browse directly.
