Sanus VMPL50A Tilting TV Mount — Install Guide
The Sanus VMPL50A is a tilting wall mount for larger displays. This guide covers the install from a UK trade fitter's perspective. Read it through before you start, and keep the original manual handy for the exact hole patterns.
Key specs
- Weight capacity — DO NOT EXCEED: 68 kg (150 lb) including the TV and any accessories.
- Tilt range: -10° to +8.5°.
- VESA support: 100 x 100 mm minimum up to 600 x 400 mm.
- Dimensions are printed in the source diagrams in millimetres — work to those, not the imperial conversions.
Safety first
This is a load-bearing fixing. Get it wrong and a heavy panel comes off the wall.
- The wall must be able to take five times the combined weight of the display and mount.
- Not for metal stud walls. The supplied fixings are for timber stud, solid concrete and concrete block only.
- Never install into plasterboard alone.
- If you have any doubt about the substrate or the safety of the install, stop and check before drilling.
Step 1 — Fit the TV brackets
Before anything else, hand-thread a screw into the inserts on the back of the panel to work out the correct diameter (M4, M6 or M8). Confirm there is enough thread to hold the bracket securely. If you hit resistance, stop — do not force it.
- Use the shortest screw-and-spacer combination that does the job. Screws that are too long can foul the panel's internals.
- For a flat back, mount the brackets straight to the rear, levelled, with the directional arrow at the bottom of each bracket pointing up.
- For an irregular or obstructed back, use the spacers to clear cables, recesses or protrusions. Keep the brackets level and the arrows pointing up.
Step 2 — Mount the wall plate
Use the SANUS HeightFinder tool if you need help setting the plate height.
Timber stud:
- Locate and centre the studs — confirm with an awl or edge-to-edge stud finder.
- Plasterboard over the stud must not exceed 16 mm (5/8 in).
- Minimum stud size: nominal 38 x 89 mm (1½ x 3½ in).
- Minimum horizontal spacing between fixings: 40.6 cm (16 in).
- Drill pilot holes to 75 mm (3 in) depth with a 5.5 mm (7/32 in) bit.
- Level the plate, mark, drill, then tighten the lag bolts only until the washers pull firmly against the plate. Do not over-tighten — over-tightening reduces holding power.
Solid concrete / concrete block:
- Mount the plate directly onto the concrete surface.
- Minimum solid concrete thickness: 203 mm (8 in). Minimum block size: 203 x 203 x 406 mm.
- Drill pilot holes to 75 mm (3 in) depth with a 10 mm (3/8 in) bit. Never drill into the mortar joints between blocks.
- Seat the lag-bolt anchors flush with the surface, then tighten as above — washers firm against the plate, no more.
Step 3 — Hang the display
You will need a second pair of hands for this step.
- Lift the TV-and-bracket assembly and hook the top of the brackets over the top edge of the wall plate.
- Swing the brackets down until the spring-loaded locking tabs engage the bottom edge — you will hear an audible click.
- Adjust tilt tension by hand at the vertical bracket knobs, or use the supplied hex key.
Step 4 — Level and finish
The ProSet post-installation levelling gives roughly ± 12.7 mm (± ½ in) of adjustment after the panel is hung, so you can true it up without taking it back down.
Removing the display
To take the TV off, flip the locking tabs on each vertical bracket away from the wall plate to release, then lift the panel up and out. Again — two people for this.
