Wisdom Insight Series ICI6: Install Guide
The Wisdom Audio Insight Series ICI6 is a planar magnetic in-ceiling loudspeaker built for theatres, in-ceiling 2-channel, and distributed audio. Unlike the multi-stage Sage Series, the ICI6 is a single-module retrofit speaker that drops into a finished gypsum ceiling using dog-toggle clamps and a magnetic grille. This guide covers cutting the opening, fitting and aiming the module, the magnetic grille, optional grille painting, placement rules, and subwoofer pairing.
Installation considerations
Fits a typical gypsum/plaster ceiling — most jobs are 1/2" (12.5mm) plaster.
Up to 1.25" (31.75mm) ceiling material is allowed for better acoustic isolation or where codes require.
Minimum ceiling thickness 0.45" (11.4mm), maximum 1.25" (31.75mm).
Pre-construction brackets are available — they let you pre-wire the location before plaster and act as a cut template for the plaster crew.
Not for drop-ceiling installs.
In the box: round grille; square grille plus square-grille landing pad; cutout template.
Installation steps
Tack or tape the supplied template to the ceiling at the speaker location.
Trace the cutout outline in pencil/pen.
Cut out the opening.
Carefully lift the magnetic grille off from one side to the other to avoid bending it; set it flat.
Reach into the opening and clear any insulation from where the module and dog toggles will sit. If the cavity is empty, loosely fill it with insulation to cut cavity resonance and improve performance.
If using the square grille, place the square-grille landing pad over the ICI6 behind the mounting flange — don't screw it to the ceiling until the grille is aligned.
Hold the module near the cutout and connect the cable to the + and - terminals on the rear, watching polarity.
Aim the tweeter: rotate the module so the tweeter is nearest the listening / most critical position for the best, most even coverage. Tighten the dog legs to secure — don't over-tighten or you'll break the doglegs. With a square landing pad, square it to the walls before fully tightening.
Fit the grille so the scrim faces the module and the edge wraps the speaker slightly; the magnets snap it into place. With the square landing pad, add plaster screws now to lock the pad tight to the ceiling.
> Caution — never touch the planar magnetic driver surface. The pre-tensioned thin film is damaged by any contact.
Optional grille painting
Soften the light tacking glue with a heat gun or hair dryer and carefully peel the scrim cloth off the back of the grille (you'll re-fit it after painting); keep its shape and clear any adhesive residue.
Prime with spray-can metal primer/bonder per the can's directions. Use water-based latex thinned 1:1, strained through a mesh strainer; for damp locations consider oil-based for durability. Spray with a touch-up/cap-spray gun (#3 tip, medium-wide fan, 60psi): three light strokes from ~10", rest a minute, rotate 90°, repeat all four sides.
While wet, clear any pooled paint under the frame and any clogged perforations with compressed air; after drying, clear stubborn perforations with a pin. Re-fit the scrim and mount the grille.
Placement guidance
Watch boundary effects — fitting the speaker too close to a wall boosts bass and lower-mid beyond the factory target. Keep the ICI6 no closer than 12" from an adjacent wall and rotate so the tweeter faces the listening position.
ICI6 with subwoofers
All Insight Series speakers are optimised for an 80Hz subwoofer crossover. Correctly ceiling-mounted, the ICI6 has flat response to 80Hz without the artificial "bass bump" of typical in-ceiling speakers, so it blends cleanly with a quality sub such as Wisdom's Regenerative Transmission Line (RTL) subwoofers. Run full-range without a sub using a high-performance Wisdom SA amplifier or equivalent at 200–300W per channel. For surround, distributed audio or 2-channel, use a Wisdom-approved DSP/calibration system for the best EQ, delay and room calibration.
Care and maintenance
Dust the front with a feather duster or lint-free cloth. For dirt and fingerprints, lightly damp a soft cloth with isopropyl alcohol — damp, not wet — and wipe the grille. Never clean the drivers.

Warranty (UK trade note)
Bought from and installed by an authorised Wisdom dealer, the ICI6 carries ten years on both the speaker and its transducers from purchase; harsh-condition use (outdoor/marine) drops to three years. The warranty excludes misuse, abuse, alteration, or install/calibration by anyone other than an authorised dealer. The printed warranty is US/Canada only — elsewhere, contact your local authorised Wisdom distributor. Obtain a return authorisation before shipping and return units in original packaging.
