Wisdom Sage Series ICS7a: Install Guide
The Wisdom Audio Sage Series ICS7a is a planar magnetic hybrid in-ceiling loudspeaker — effectively a high-performance floor/bookshelf speaker built into the ceiling, for theatres, in-ceiling 2-channel and distributed audio. It's a single-module retrofit fit using dog-ear clamps and a magnetic grille, with an optional IC-LAT laser aiming accessory and an Extended Coverage Waveguide (ECW) that tailors dispersion to the application. This guide covers the cut and fit, aiming (laser or directivity indicators), the ECW, placement rules, and subwoofer pairing.
Installation steps
Take care unpacking — the ICS7a is heavier than you might expect.
- Tack or tape the supplied template to the ceiling at the speaker location.
- Trace the cutout outline in pencil/pen.
- Cut out the opening.
- Carefully lift the magnetic grille off from one side to the other to avoid bending it; set it flat.
- Reach into the opening and clear any insulation from where the module and dog toggles will sit. If the cavity is empty, loosely fill with insulation to cut cavity resonance and improve performance.
- Hold the module near the cutout and connect the cable to the + and - terminals on the rear, watching polarity.
- If using the IC-LAT laser accessory: fit it to the module now, aligning its guide tabs with the guide holes on top of the planar magnetic transducer housing.
- With IC-LAT: turn the laser on by slowly rotating the thumbscrew anti-clockwise, rotate the module until the laser hits the target listening position, then tighten the four dog-ear screws to fix the module to the ceiling.
- Without IC-LAT: find the directivity indicators on the module rim, rotate the module until they centre on the listening position, then tighten the four dog-ear screws.
- Fit the grille so the scrim faces the module and the edge wraps the speaker slightly; the magnets snap it into place.
> Important: the ICS7a dog-ears clamp a maximum ceiling opening/thickness of 2" (5.8cm).
> Caution — never touch the planar magnetic driver surface. The pre-tensioned thin film is damaged by any contact.
Extended Coverage Waveguide (ECW)
The included ECW lets one speaker serve different roles. Whether you fit it depends on the application:

Placement guidance
Watch boundary effects — fitting too close to a wall boosts bass and lower-mid beyond the factory target. Keep the ICS7a no closer than 12" from an adjacent wall. Treat it like a high-quality floor or bookshelf speaker when positioning for surround, distributed audio or 2-channel. For optimal placement, contact Wisdom for custom guidance.
ICS7a with subwoofers
All Sage Series speakers are optimised for an 80Hz subwoofer crossover. Correctly installed, the ICS7a has flat response to 80Hz without the artificial "bass bump" of typical in-wall speakers, so it blends cleanly with a quality sub such as Wisdom's Regenerative Transmission Line (RTL) subwoofers. Run full-range without a sub using a high-performance Wisdom SA amplifier or equivalent at 200–500W per channel. For surround, distributed audio or 2-channel, use an SC-2 or SC-3 system controller for the best EQ, delay and room calibration.

Care and maintenance
Dust the front with a feather duster or lint-free cloth. For dirt and fingerprints, lightly damp a soft cloth with isopropyl alcohol — damp, not wet — and wipe the grille. Never clean the drivers.
Warranty (UK trade note)
Bought from and installed by an authorised Wisdom dealer, Sage Series loudspeakers carry five years on the speaker and ten years on the transducers from purchase; harsh-condition use (outdoor/marine) drops to three years. The warranty excludes misuse, abuse, alteration, or install/calibration by anyone other than an authorised dealer. The printed warranty is North America only — elsewhere, contact your local authorised Wisdom distributor. Obtain a return authorisation before shipping and return units in original packaging.
