Cambium cnMatrix Switching: Installer Deployment Guide
Cambium cnMatrix Managed Switches: Installer Overview
Cambium cnMatrix switches are a range of enterprise-grade managed Ethernet switches designed for unified wired and wireless deployments. They are managed through cnMaestro, Cambium's cloud or on-premises management platform, alongside Cambium's cnPilot Wi-Fi access points — allowing a single management interface to cover both the switching and wireless layers.
Policy-Based Automation (PBA)
cnMatrix switches support Policy-Based Automation, which automates network configuration when devices connect or move:
- Zero-touch provisioning: When a Cambium access point or other profiled device connects, the switch automatically applies the correct VLAN, QoS, and port configuration. No manual CLI configuration per port required.
- Automatic VLAN assignment: Devices are placed into the correct network segment based on their device profile — isolating IoT, staff, and guest traffic without manual port configuration.
- Dynamic cleanup: When a device disconnects, its associated dynamic configuration is automatically removed from the port.
cnMaestro Cloud Management
cnMatrix switches are managed from cnMaestro, which provides:
- Lifecycle management across the entire installed estate
- Remote configuration and firmware updates
- Real-time monitoring and alerting
- On-premises deployment option for sites where cloud connectivity is restricted
cnMaestro is free at the base tier — no per-device licence fee for core management functions.
Offline Resilience
cnMatrix switches continue to enforce their last-applied configuration if cloud connectivity is lost. Installed sites are not dependent on continuous cloud access for normal operation.
